My congratulations to Jemma and Rob on their recent wedding and I was very happy to be able to help with the supply of some vintage truncheons to help create this lovely picture on their wedding day.

This was very kindly handed to me last night while doing an event at the Scout Hut in Elvington, by one of the young Beavers in their group. It is being added to my collection to show at events, especially in and around N Yorkshire. The young boy's parent explained that it was a metal detector find from a while ago. Clearly York City Police and although not easy to see, there are some marks left from mounting lugs, so it looks like a helmet plate. Plates this old were normally brass or a cheaper so celled 'white metal' which is what this seems to be. The mystery is why there is no monarch's crown which would have certainly helped date it. I am struggling to find any images of one of these. A possible explanation would seem to be that it may have been one of the very first helmet plates for the Constabulary formed in 1836 during which we were ruled by William IV. Crowns were used on police helmet badges from Queen Victoria onwards with there having been three versions so far up to Elizabeth II and pending new versions for King Charles. So could this be one of the first before crowns were added? Anyway, this could be up to 190 years old! My thanks to Elvington Beavers for a fun evening.

Passed to me at a talk this week and now part of the collection. I am keen to track down anyone in this image or related for a bit of their history and any "tall tales" to tell. The back is signed by all in the picture which is Halifax Borough Police.

A great couple of days in Lytham for the 1940's event. Taking the opportunity to arrest a few without the need for paperwork. Lots of fun and thank you to the very many who wanted to try on a pair of handcuffs including the local constabulary! See you all next year!
