Last month was the Combe Down Art Trail. The museum again hosted the trail's "Snapshot" exhibition, featuring artwork by each participating artist on the trail.

Bath Open Studios organise the art trails in Bath. Their last event of the year, 44AD Artspace's Open Studios, will run from 27th-28th November 2026. You can find out more about them on their website: https://www.bathopenstudios.com/

Mendip ROCKS Festival of Geology, the annual geology festival run by Somerset Earth Science Centre, Mendip Hills National Landscape, and the Mendip Society, runs until the 24th of October. This month's talk hosted by the Combe Down Heritage Society is on Wednesday 16th September at Combe Down Primary School Hall, Summer Lane, BA2 5JX.

Ronald Hutton (Professor in the Department of Historical Studies, Bristol University) will talk on "Europe's Great Witch Hunt". "Between 1424 and 1782, Europe experienced widespread witch hunts. This talk examines their causes, the peak during the Scientific Revolution, their decline, regional concentration, and why most victims were women." Professor Hutton is the author of books such as The Witch: A History of Fear from Ancient Times to the Present, The Triumph of the Moon: A History of Modern Pagan Witchcraft, among others.

The Combe Down Art Trail is coming up on 12th-13th September!

At the museum there will once again be a "snapshot" exhibition featuring work from every participating artist. It will be the perfect place to get a taste of what is on offer.

There is a free talk at Aerospace Bristol on Tuesday 22 September starting at 7:15pm prompt (you can make a cash donation as you leave the talk).
The talk is about drilling oil wells using a “Turbodrill”. This was developed at what is now Rolls-Royce Bristol by Sir Frank Whittle (who also had a lot to do with invention and refinement of Jet Engines.
You don’t have to be a member of the Heritage Trust or ‘Bristol Aero talks”; all are welcome.
