Murder Mystery Announcement

We are pleased to announce that for the first time ever, The Coffin Works and the Pen Museum unite to plunge you back into the streets of 1915 Birmingham. The “Shell Crisis” is at its peak, and the Jewellery Quarter’s factories are close to boiling point.

Step into a living history experience to interrogate the desperate and the dangerous. From the clatter of the pen presses to the shadows of the Shroud Room, you must search the evidence and separate the truthful from the liars. Will you uncover the truth before the morning whistle blows, or will the secrets of the Quarter stay buried forever?

This event will begin at the Pen Museum and finish at the Coffin Works. There will be a short walk between the museums, taking roughly 10 minutes.

Refreshments include tea, coffee and biscuits

This Saturday we are excited to be attending Sarehole Mill 's 'Origins of Middle-Earth: J.R.R. Tolkien and Sarehole' Guided walk!

Tolkien was deeply connected to the local landscape, which inspired much of his writing. He was also passionate about penmanship, and could have even used nibs produced by Birmingham’s own pen industry!

Join a guided walk introducing the scenery that inspired J.R.R Tolkien when he lived near Sarehole Mill as a child.The tour begins at the Mill and takes us

Happy posthumous birthday to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, born on this day in 1859!

Did you know the author lived and worked in Aston between 1878 and 1881, with some of his books written during this time bearing names closely tied to the city, such as Sherlock St. Can you think of any other famous street names in Birmingham?

The Pen Museum will currently take last entry at 14:00 instead of 15:00, please do keep an eye on our social media for any changes,
