The Yellow Door

The Yellow Door There is a bookbindery and shop at street level. The gallery runs an exciting programme of exhibitions, workshops and events.

The Yellow Door is a Victorian warehouse building that has, through conservation-led redevelopment, been brought into creative mixed use as residential and working studio spaces. The Yellow Door Gallery is home to The Yellow Door Group, a lively collective of creative practitioners in the visual and fine arts and literature. Recently recognised as one of the top three galleries in Dumfries and Gal

loway by ThreeBestRated, the Yellow Door Gallery is a friendly, welcoming space. The gallery is part of The Yellow Door, an urban mixed-use sustainable development project aiming to bring a run-down Victorian warehouse building back into creative use as residential and working studio spaces. The building has a rich history and the ongoing restoration seeks to celebrate and recognise this history whilst bringing more and more of the space back to life. Renovation and conversion works started in October 2013 and have progressed slowly, as limited funds have permitted. Plans to bring the building back into use initially involved the restoration of the shop premises, which opened as an experimental pop-up shop and gallery in December 2013 and January 2014, successfully showcasing local creative talent. A group of artists, designers, makers and writers from Dumfries and the surrounding area formed a collaborative group and launched a permanent shop and gallery in April 2014. With exhibitions of members' work as well as open exhibitions, and shows by invited artists, there is a varied programme of exhibitions throughout the year. The shop and gallery at The Yellow Door is now a well-established part of the cultural and artistic scene in Dumfries.

Great opportunity to show your work at 16 Queen Street!

Raw Milk Mercantile invites artists to submit work for an upcoming exhibition exploring the theme of Renewal.

Renewal speaks to cycles of change—seasonal, personal, environmental, spiritual. This exhibition seeks works that reflect on processes of restoration, resilience, rebirth, and new beginnings. Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme broadly. Works may be literal or abstract, intimate or collective, grounded in the present or speculative in nature.

We welcome submissions in most media, including but not limited to painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, mixed media, and jewellery. We ask that the art be recently produced, available for purchase, and to have not been displayed at 16 Queen Street before.

Eligibility: Open to emerging and established artists
Submission Deadline: 17 February 2026
Exhibition Dates: 20 February - 15 April 2026
Location: Raw Milk Mercantile, 16 Queen Street, Dumfries DG1 2JF.

This exhibition will be juried, artists will be notified of selection by 19 February. Exhibition opening evening event will be Friday, 20 Feb from 6pm.

We look forward to seeing how you interpret renewal—as an ending, a beginning, or something unfolding in between!
