Join us for Journeys, Myths & Connections this November. A programme of events responding to Chitra Ganesh’s current exhibition.

This series will unfold over the month of November and offers experiences including:

-A creative artist-led zine workshop with Sofia Barton Art and Chitra Ganesh

-Kathak Dance performance in collaboration with Gem Arts

-Baltic Cinema screening of My Beautiful Laundrette selected by Chitra Ganesh

-Multilingual tours of Journey to the Great Below delivered in languages including Tamil, Farsi, and Bangla

What does Local mean to the next generation of artists? 🤔 For our first ever Youth Open Call supported by Fenwick Newcastle we invited creative minds aged 11–17 to find out.

From the submissions 44 were chosen to be part of the exhibition Baltic Open Submission 2026.

Three of those young artists were selected for the Fenwick Art Award with their works now exhibiting at Fenwick, Newcastle.

Elizabeth (17) has been awarded first place with her skilled oil painting Riverside, showing the autumn light on a walk in Wooler with her best friend. Henry (11) and Jason (14) have been named runners-up.

👏 Huge congratulations to all three artists.

Experience a sonic journey as you step into a monumental sculptural mask The Divine Puppeteer from Keiken

The work takes inspiration from a surreal, dreamlike legend about a deity who finds themselves in a waiting room, flicking through a catalogue of possible bodies, preparing to be reborn. Will they return as a Morphogenic Angel or something like a snail? What might it mean to move between species, bodies and forms of consciousness?

Experience a night of q***r short films as part of a new short film night hosted by Film Hub North. Thu 22 Oct, 18:30.

Bringing together bold, brilliant stories from Northern filmmakers.

Funny, tender, messy, provocative, frightening, and deeply human, this programme’s focus is on q***r stories. From forbidden feelings and complicated families to toxic love, identity, desire and the unexpected places we find each other, these films put q***r voices front and centre.

Ella Murtha, daughter of celebrated documentary photographer Tish Murtha, talks about her connection to Tish’s series Elswick Kids Revisited in our Baltic Bites video. Elswick Kids Revisited takes another look at marginalised communities in Elswick, Newcastle and documents childhood joy and changing societies.

The exhibition Close to Home honours Tish’s vision and the continued stewardship of her archive. Her images remain a vital record of working-class experience and a powerful call to acknowledge the inequalities that persist today.

Stroll along the Quayside with us for the final time this year before we head indoors for autumn 🍂
