Six years of Alchemy!!

A huge thank you to everyone that has supported us! To each person that comes in to buy a coffee, a print, host an event or has invested their hard earned money and left carrying a painting you are all class.

Your support allows us to continue with the vision of creating a welcoming space for art & creativity in Glasgow. Which stemmed from an idea my Dad had circa 2018 which kickstarted the whole thing.

Massive thanks to the incredible team I get to work with and the incredible Brigitte Bregagna who has been with us since day 1!

Today (Friday 16th October) we'll have some free bits (lighters & carabiners), free homemade tiramisu by Bri to celebrate and Frankie dog will be in the shop!

The Jackie Marno-McGoldrick Art Prize is an annual Glasgow student art competition open to students in the Clydebank area.

The JMM Art Prize's mission is to continue the legacy of Jackie Marno-McGoldrick - an artist and art teacher from Clydebank High School who's mission it was to empower Glasgow's kids with a creative voice and vision.

This year's competition is kindly supported by Glasgow School of Art, CASS Art, Partick Thistle FC. & West Dumbartonshire Council.

Victoria Snazell (b.1970) is a visual artist with strong ties to the sheds and gardens of the suburbs. Playing with the plastic qualities of paint and clay, she digs to uncover shapes, forms, and creatures, exploring the tension between an object’s roundness and the flatness of a painting. Her sculptural background informs semi-abstract works where forms shift between recognition and ambiguity, investigating presence, absence, vulnerability, ageing, and humour. Built through layered revisions and experimentation with materials, the work embraces awkwardness and imperfection, occupying an in-between space that wobbles with energy and creates an ongoing dialogue between control and surrender.

Phoebe Ryrko
Phoebe Ryrko is a painter in oils, whose work explores the healing power of nature and colour. It is a both personal journey towards wholeness and an invitation to enjoy a moment of stillness. She was brought up in a Catholic spiritual community called Lothlorien, which was dedicated to helping people in crisis or breakdown. As a child she took refuge in nature and in flowers and her preoccupation is with the mysterious energetic exchange between objects and humans. The transient and ungraspable fullness that we experience each day in our ordinary lives, that includes both grief and elation. For her, oil paint has a magical and playful materiality that evokes a sense of reverence and excitement.

'INVISIBLE THREADS'
Phoebe Ryrko & Victoria Snazell

Phoebe and Vic met at art school over 30 years ago. Their ongoing friendship and critical dialogue have helped sustain their practices over time. This exhibition celebrates their shared explorations of the quiet, everyday things that often feel ordinary yet are given special attention through the work.

Ryrko approaches her art as part of her spiritual practice. Her still life paintings of flowers are meditative, celebrating the simple presence and beauty of nature, through the soft, fluid qualities of oil paint.

Snazell’s work is grounded in the psychological dramas of the suburbs. Playing with the plastic properties of paint and clay – she digs to discover and uncover shapes, forms, and creatures that embody a certain vulnerability.

The Invisible Threads that connect their work are expressed in the relationship between the mind or spirit and matter. Each artist’s search for meaning, honouring what it is to be human in their own way.

Exhibition info:

'Us, Interrupted began with a fairly simple idea: phones are getting in the way. The more I painted, though, the less simple it became.

Phones distract us, isolate us and pull our attention away from the people and places directly in front of us. But they also connect us, entertain us, reassure us, make us laugh and allow us to share moments with people who may be nowhere near us. So the work became less about blaming the phone and more about looking at us.

These paintings explore the strange, funny and sometimes tender ways we now live alongside technology. Some figures are absorbed in screens. Some are connecting through them. Some are missing what is around them. Others are sharing something joyful.
At the heart of the exhibition is something much older than the technology itself: our need to connect.'
