This lavish ceramic fountain created by August Jean (1830-1890) was originally owned by Dr Titus Deville, a prominent Harrogate physician, and displayed in his home on Parliament Street.

It was later moved to the Royal Baths, where it became the centrepiece of the grand entrance hall.

In the 1880s and 1890s, Harrogate was attracting health seekers from across Britain, who came to take the waters and stay in its hotels. This little box may have carried their postcards and letters home, sharing news of their stay, the waters, the weather and their adventures in the town.

The VR stands for Victoria Regina (Queen Victoria), dating the box to her reign and most likely to the 1880s or 1890s.

This detail is from a beautiful stained-glass window once belonged to the National Children’s Home on Pannal Ash Road, Harrogate.

Designed by Robert Anning Bell (1863–1933), one of the leading British artists and designers of his day, it was given to the museum in the 1980s.

Thank you to everyone who came along last week to take part in our Arts Award Discover Day.

We had lots of fun sharing our collections to inspire local young artists to cut, stick, draw and craft to get their Arts Award Discover certificates - the first of five qualifications awarded by Trinity College London that supports children to grow as artists and arts leaders.

Creative kids and budding young artists are invited to join us at the museum to complete their Arts Award Discover - a qualification by Trinity College London that supports young people to grow as artists and arts leaders.

There'll be crafts inspired by the museum collection, a chance to try different art forms and create lots of unique artworks inspired by Harrogate's artists, craftspeople and museum collections.

Calling all young artists!

Join us at the Museum to complete Arts Award Discover, 1 of 5 qualifications awarded by Trinity College London which support children to grow as artists and arts leaders.

Spot types of art around the museum, create your own artwork and learn about an artist or craftsperson linked to Harrogate and Museum collection!

Friday 28th August, 10am - 3pm (last entry 2:30pm)
£7 per child, pay on arrival.
No need to book, just turn up.

Please note: Children participating must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

We wanted to let you know that our admission prices will be increasing slightly from April. This small change will help us continue to care for our historic sites, improve visitor experiences, and support essential maintenance and staffing costs.

Your support plays a huge part in helping us look after the Pump Room and ensure it remains a welcoming space for everyone.
