CAR PARKING INFORMATION

We look forward to welcoming lots of visitors across half term week and Woolfest.

Please note that from Tuesday 26 May Leeds Industrial Museum’s main carpark will be closed for essential sewage works being undertaken by Yorkshire Water as part of their Storm Alliance project across Yorkshire.

These works are expected to last 10 months, continuing into Spring 2027, and aim to improve the cleanliness of the river Aire.

During this period, signposted alternative carparking can be found directly across the road from our usual car park on Canal Road, with pedestrianized access across the road.

We are very much open as usual, but please allow extra time during your visit to account for these temporary parking measures.

With thanks for your patience!

This painting of Kirkstall Abbey has been restored to its former glory πŸ’«

Sadly it's not signed, so we don't know who the artist was. It must have been painted after 1779, the year the tower you can see partially collapsed - probably the late 1700s or early 1800s. The house on the right in the background is the abbey gatehouse, now Abbey House Museum.

Whoever the artist was, they probably used a fair bit of creative licence to make the scenery look so wild and romantic. In reality, the abbey was very overgrown with trees and foliage before Leeds Borough Council acquired it in 1890.

The painting was donated by a J.W. Padbury in 1958. It's now been brought back to life by conservation experts Critchlow & Kukkonen Ltd, kindly funded by the Friends of Leeds City Museums.
