As August and Manchester Pride month come to an end, there’s still time to pick up our some bits and our 'Pits and Perverts' t-shirt from the PHM shop.⁠

The design takes its name from the legendary Pits and Perverts benefit gig, organised by Le****ns and G**s Support the Miners (LGSM) in 1984 to raise funds for striking miners and their families, a powerful moment of solidarity between the LGBTQIA+ community and the miners’ movement.⁠

In 1981, women marched from Cardiff to RAF Greenham Common to protest against US nuclear missiles, beginning what became the Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp.⁠

The Wokingham Peace Group banner uses powerful symbolism to share its message, cleverly turning the word PEACE into the image of a dove.⁠

We have a dedicated team of conservators who help preserve important pieces of protest history such PHM Senior Conservator Kloe Rumsey assessing its condition and helping to ensure that this important piece of protest history can be preserved for future generations.⁠

The day follows the launch of Findmypast’s new podcast, featuring historian and broadcaster David OBE, who joins genealogist Jen Baldwin to explore the Peterloo Massacre, the people caught up in the events of 16 August 1819 and why their stories still matter today.⁠

Then it’s your turn to delve into the past with Findmypast’s genealogy experts, where you can explore billions of historical records and uncover the stories of the everyday people who helped shape history.⁠

Ahead of the anniversary of the Peterloo Massacre next Sunday 16 August, we're proud to unveil one of the newest additions to our collection: a rare Peterloo commemorative jug.⁠

Believed to be the only known example of its kind, this remarkable everyday object was created in the aftermath of the events of 1819, transforming a household item into a powerful symbol of protest, remembrance and the fight for democracy.⁠

Now on display at People's History Museum, it's a rare opportunity to connect with one of Manchester's most significant stories.⁠
