Great talk by Gill Moore, assisted by Sue Sedgwick, on Dr Dresser’s Dream to members of Cleveland & Teesside Local History Society .
An audience that is local to the Dorman Museum but who may not all have appreciated the significance of Dresser or the Linthorpe Pottery.

Best wishes from the Christopher Dresser Society for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
The Dresser designs on our festive mantelpiece behind door 25 are a Perry and Company Kordofan chamberstick, a blue Linthorpe Pottery posy vase, a Liberty spun brass candle holder, a seasonally red Linthorpe Pottery bottle vase and a Linthorpe Pottery jug.

The panic buying stage of the festive season is upon us. Everybody knows that practical items always make the best gifts - like this Kenrick and Sons cast iron coal shovel – or perhaps the hardware store was the only shop open late on Christmas Eve.

23/12/2025

Making preparations for welcoming guests for Christmas dinner – time to source some extra chairs. Behind door 23 is a Dresser designed wooden dining chair made by Thomas Knight of Bath and retailed by Liberty.

The Christmas owl, or 'chrowl’ has appeared on festive ornaments since Victorian times. Behind door 22 is a soup dish from the Old Hall Earthenware Company, with a Christopher Dresser designed floral/owl motif.

21/12/2025

Behind door 21 is a pair of cast iron firedogs designed by Christopher Dresser, ideal for burning a Yule log on this Winter Solstice, to bring luck and protection to the home.

Be inspired by this beautiful brass and copper inkstand made by Benham and Froud, to get those final Christmas cards written as today is the last collection day for first class Christmas delivery.

19/12/2025

Today is Mad Friday, the last Friday before Christmas when office parties and social events are at their height. So, behind door number 19 is a Linthorpe Art Pottery fuddling cup, as tonight there may be just a few people who drink more than they intended.

18/12/2025

With just a week to go, time to consider a condiment set to keep the Christmas dinner table organised. Behind door 18 this Hukin and Heath silver plated cruet has cut glass containers for mustard for the ham and your choice of sauces and spices to enhance the other dishes.

17/12/2025

To celebrate the start of Saturnalia, an ancient Roman midwinter festival in which lamps and candles played a significant part, behind door 17 is a galvanised tin chamberstick made by R. Perry and Son, sold by Liberty in art colours.
