On Tuesday we welcomed the family of 2Lt Jay Young Jr to the museum.

Lt Young was a bombadier / Navigator on the Aubrey Cates crew, 713 Squadron.
Jay arrived at seething in may 1944 and finished his tour in july 1944.

His son and grand daughter were overwhelmed to walk in the steps of jay.
We also took the family to seething church, which jay had spoke fondly to his son about.

We would like to thank the family for a very generous donation towards the up keep of the tower museum.
Not many photo's, as it was a mid week visit.

Carl also took the family on a flight around the area, taking off and landing on the runway which jay would of used many times.

Thanks to carl and the family for the photo's
Please note tours of outlaying sites, are with landowners permission.

Tuesday 8th May 1945 VE Day.
Some awesome photos taken at Seething on VE Night.
Officers from one living site decided the flares did not make enough noise!!!! so they supplemented them with pistols and carbines. This unauthorized use of fi****ms resulted in all officers having to get up at 5am for a march around the perimeter!!

For anybody who maybe interested.
There is a fantastic four page article in this months magazine all about Bob Dance.

Bob has been a loyal supporter of our museum for many many years now.
The article documents his time as a legendary formula one mechanic with Lotus.
Bob worked with many famous formula one drivers.

Its so nice bob is getting the recognition he deserves.

81 years ago today.......

It was only three weeks before the end of the war, the GI's at seething would witness a terrible accident which many held with them for the rest of their lives.

The Torrance crew flying #44-50572 lined up on runway #25 for a mission to Landshut Germany.
Struggling to get airborne, the aircraft ploughed though a field at the end of the runway, the nose wheel dropped into a drainage ditch breaking the back of the liberator.

Most of the crew managed to escape.however the top turrett had fell down trapping four men inside.
Fire crew and medics had to withdraw as the plane became engulfed in flames.

Within minutes the liberator blew up with a full bomb and fuel load, killing the four trapped airmen.

Today we remember.
