We’re so excited to feature Marcus as April’s monthly reader. He explained how his childhood dream of being an artist became his adult career as an illustrator. When our students see someone who turns words into worlds, it reminds them that reading isn’t just a skill … it’s a superpower. And sometimes, all it takes is one unforgettable book—or one unforgettable artist—to change how a child sees themselves.

📚 I was proud to be able to designate Wizards Wardrobe: Literacy Matters for a $20,000 operating grant through my office. What you see here is what you get: dedicated individuals who care deeply about making a difference in children’s lives and who have made it their life mission.

Under the leadership of Diane and her incredible volunteers, they welcome children from across Albany and the South End into their doors for reading assistance, tutoring, play time, and whatever else they may need a little bit of help with. They are a one-stop shop for so many families in our community.

I couldn’t be prouder to secure this funding to continue and expand their mission. They’re located at 20 Rensselaer Street in Albany. To learn more, volunteer your time (always needed!), see their hours, or inquire about your child, visit their website: wizardswardrobe.org
