When DMX died, the tributes came immediately. Hashtags, posts, stories, statements from artists across the industry.
Then it was time to actually do something.
DMX's uncle and longtime manager Ray Copeland was on the phone trying to organize the funeral. "I was calling everybody," he said. "Ruff Ryders, Def Jam, friends. When it was time to bury X, I heard silence."
Kanye West stepped up without saying a word publicly. He produced and covered the entire Barclays Center Celebration of Life event, a production that cost close to $300,000. He brought the Sunday Service choir. He performed. He never talked about it.
DMX's daughter Sasha still visits his grave. No cameras, no posts. Just a daughter and her father.
Some people show love in hashtags. Others show up.
