LAWRENCE MCADAMS - Fine Artist and Storyteller - shares his beautiful description of this oil on canvas:

Into the Deep
Oil on canvas
22 x 28” + frame

“Do you long for more? Seems like we are often given a choice between a “safe” life where we swim, stay and exist in a prescribed area, even holding onto little markers of assurance. Or are we open to ADVENTURE?

The call of something outside the limits—something that will test our mettle, something that appears dark and we have no idea how to navigate. Someday when we look back, will it be with regret or with a smile, knowing that we tried our best?”

Into the Deep is available. Inquiries welcome.

These seven mixed media collages (swipe) by MIA MOORE are built from old and new papers gathered over many years—fragments from books, magazines, photographs, and printed ephemera. Layer by layer, they become quiet narratives that hint at faraway places, fleeting encounters, and stories waiting to be discovered.

Mounted on linen mats and framed in brushed gold, each piece invites a closer look. The more time you spend with them, the more connections begin to emerge.

Here is one at 23x20 framed. All seven pieces are currently on view and available in the gallery. Inquiries welcome.

Mia is one of 12 of our 19 Resident Artists with a history of showing in the prestigious Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach. Her work is collected worldwide. Check out more and follow Mia

“Soar” by COLLEEN KENNEDY PREMER,
Hand-carved woodblock print on Japanese mulberry paper
32 x 40 inches

Creating a hand-carved woodblock print is a labor-intensive process that blends drawing, carving, and printing. Colleen first transfers an image onto a wood block, then carefully carves away areas that will remain unprinted. Then she rolls ink onto the raised surface and presses paper onto the block to capture the image. Each print requires patience, precision, and a deep understanding of the medium.

“Soar” is printed on Japanese mulberry paper, prized for its exceptional strength, soft texture, and luminous quality. Made from mulberry fibers, this archival paper has been used for centuries by printmakers and artists. Its delicate appearance belies its durability, while its subtle translucency and rich surface beautifully hold ink, enhancing every carved line and detail.

We are honored to always have a collection of Colleen’s fine art prints on view in our main gallery. This summer, you can also find Colleen in the prestigious Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach, running July 7-September 3. Look for Colleen’s work in Booth number 49. Fresh on the walls at Sandstone Gallery: four works by ISABELLE ALESSANDRA, united by a palette of soft greens, celadon, warm gold, and creamy whites. Together, they evoke the feeling of bringing the outdoors in—sunlit gardens, shifting light, open air, and the quiet rhythms of nature distilled into contemporary abstraction.

Isabelle’s distinctive visual language balances geometry with organic forms, creating compositions that feel alive and joyful. Painted on cradled basswood panels, each of these pieces invite the eye to wander, discovering new relationships between shape, color, and space with each viewing.

Swipe to see closer views and dimensions of each work, and imagine how these luminous pieces might live in your home or collection. For pricing and availability, please send us a message or email the gallery directly.

We are proud to always have a collection of Isabelle’s work on view at Sandstone Gallery. This summer, visitors to Southern California can also find a collection of her work on view at the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel and in the prestigious juried Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach. Isabelle is one of 12 of our 19 Resident Artists who have exhibited in the Festival of Arts over multiple years—a reflection of the exceptional caliber of artists represented by the gallery. Congratulations to Sandstone Gallery’s Resident Artists, Lance Carlson (currently featured in the gallery) and RoseMarie Davio, on having work accepted into the 42nd Irvine Annual at the Irvine Fine Arts Center.

Opening July 11, this highly recognized juried exhibition showcases outstanding work by California artists working across a wide range of visual media. What makes acceptance into the Irvine Annual especially meaningful is its long history and highly competitive selection process. Since 1983, the exhibition has served as a survey of contemporary art in California, with submissions reviewed by respected guest jurors drawn from museums, galleries, and arts organizations. The exhibition highlights the diversity, innovation, and creative excellence of artists working throughout the state.

We are proud to see Lance and RoseMarie’s work included in this year’s exhibition and honored to represent their work in Sandstone Gallery.

The 42nd Irvine Annual will be on view July 11–September 5, with a free opening reception on July 11 from 2–4 p.m. at the Irvine Fine Arts Center.

Please join us in congratulating Lance and RoseMarie on this well-deserved accomplishment. 🎉

Sandstone Gallery is pleased to celebrate the opening of two new featured exhibitions.

Known for his dynamic abstract paintings, LANCE CARLSON creates works that balance intention and instinct through layered color, texture, line, and gesture. Installed throughout the gallery’s lower floor and featured prominently in our front windows, the exhibition offers a sweeping look at Lance’s latest work and the energy that defines his practice. Running through August 3.

Our Guest Artist exhibition by GRETCHEN BECK draws connections between the luminous landscapes of Niger, West Africa, and Laguna Beach, California, through paintings, drawings, collage, and mixed media. Blending decades of artistic exploration with personal experience as a former Peace Corps volunteer in Niger, Gretchen creates lyrical abstractions that evoke peace, harmony, and reflection. Gretchen’s exhibition will be on view in our Skylight Room from June 2–29.

Join us tonight from 6–9 PM to meet both artists and experience these exhibitions alongside our resident artists' work. Enjoy the evening as part of Laguna Beach’s First Thursday Art Walk—explore neighboring galleries and restaurants, and take advantage of free admission at the Laguna Art Museum just across the street.

If you can’t join us tonight, Sandstone Gallery is open daily from 11 AM to 5 PM and by appointment.

Laabu Kan Ga Borey — “the loveliest of lands.”

Gretchen Beck’s upcoming Guest Artist exhibition explores the shared beauty of Niger, West Africa, and Laguna Beach, California — landscapes united by radiant light, vibrant color, and trees reaching toward expansive skies. Through paintings, drawings, collage, and mixed media, Gretchen creates lyrical abstractions that evoke peace, harmony, and reflection.

A former Peace Corps volunteer in Niger and longtime arts educator, Gretchen brings decades of artistic research and exhibition experience to this deeply personal body of work.

This exciting exhibition runs in our Skylight Room from June 2 through June 29. Join us for Opening Night on Thursday, June 4, from 6–9 pm, and meet Gretchen in person. The evening corresponds with Laguna Beach’s First Thursday Art Walk, where all the galleries and restaurants surrounding us are open for your enjoyment!

Check out more of Gretchen’s dynamic work on our website (link@from our bio), and on www.gretchenbeck.com
