Today, these photographs remind us of what New York City's skyline looked like during the final decades of the 20th century, when the original World Trade Center towers rose above the city as symbols of hope, ambition, and progress. 🏙️✨💔

Construction of the World Trade Center began on August 5, 1966, as part of a bold vision to revitalize Lower Manhattan and create a global center for commerce and international trade. The first tenants moved into the North Tower in 1970, followed by the South Tower in 1971, even before construction was fully completed. 🏗️🌎

On April 4, 1973, the Twin Towers were officially dedicated. At 110 stories each and reaching heights of more than 1,360 feet (417 meters), they became the tallest buildings in the world at the time. 🌤️🏙️

They were only **11 years old**. Sixth graders. Children with dreams, talents, laughter, and an entire future ahead of them. 💔👧👦🕯️

On September 11, 2001, they boarded American Airlines Flight 77 alongside their teachers, excited for a special educational trip to California sponsored by National Geographic. It was meant to be an unforgettable adventure filled with learning and discovery. Instead, it became a heartbreaking tragedy when Flight 77 was hijacked and crashed into the Pentagon. 😭✈️💔

🌹 **Bernard** was remembered as clever, witty, and full of personality. He loved basketball and had a knack for keeping his teachers on their toes with his quick mind and sense of humor. 🏀❤️

🌹 **Asia** was known for her kind heart and willingness to help others. She loved school, adored Tweety Bird, and brought joy to those around her. 🐤💛🕊️

🌹 **Rodney** loved reading, playing computer games, spending time with his siblings, and cheering on his favorite professional wrestlers. 📚🎮❤️
