It’s a beautiful day in New York today. Not too hot, not too cold — perfect!

If you’re near Prospect Park, come say hi 👋 I’m at Grand Army Plaza with my Birds of NYC prints.

There’s ice cream, lemonade, another artist with acrylic abstract paintings, and the Brooklyn Public Library Central Branch nearby 😊

“June Girl,” holding balloons in both hands, is heading into summer, into joy. And soon, we will too!

This original watercolor painting, size 10"×8", is available on my website. It comes with a gold frame, size 14"×11", included 🙂

Hi, I’m Luba 👋

A few things about me:

🎈 I’m a watercolor artist inspired by the birds, trees, and quiet moments of New York City — mixed with memory and imagination

🎈 I’m also a Vinyasa yoga teacher and have practiced yoga since my twenties. Slowing down, observing, and paying attention deeply influences the way I paint

🎈 I’m a writer too. I have one published novel and another waiting patiently in a drawer, pretending it doesn’t want attention

🎈 I was born in a small village in Russia and have lived in New York for the past 20 years. Sometimes I still feel like I observe this city with the eyes of both a newcomer and someone deeply rooted in it

🎈 I write and love poetry — especially poetry about nature

🎈 I have a husband and a 9-year-old son. My son and I are avid birdwatchers. My husband is not really — but he lovingly supports our endless bird conversations anyway and can now identify at least three species against his will 😀

How about you? What do you love? ❤️

Summer is getting closer, and I can feel the anticipation of something good growing inside me. Childhood memories come back to me: fields of dandelions and wild strawberries, the scent of linden blossoms and currants, the pine forest near one grandmother’s house, and the little bridge over the river near the other’s.

The structure of school temporarily disappears, and at first it even feels a little sad. My grandmother used to call this feeling “khandryozh” — that moment when the old has already passed, but the new hasn’t settled in yet.

For me, that feeling lasted 2–3 days, and then came freedom and lightness! Well, almost — if we don’t count weeding potatoes, watering them, and all the other garden chores. Still, without school, that workload felt minimal.

And then came splashing in the river, diving in headfirst or making huge cannonballs, volleyball on the school field, picking apricots near the roads, and baking potatoes over a campfire outdoors.

What are your feedings of summer?

During recent market fairs, people often asked me if I had monk parakeets. Now I do 🥰 My son and I saw them in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Where have you seen them?

My son and I love birdwatching at Jamaica Bay, Queens. Tree Swallow is one of my favorite birds❤️

I’m near the Plaza Hotel until 1 pm today.

A woman walks up, looks at my bird paintings, and says, “Oh, you speak my language.” She points to her raven earrings.

“💯,” I reply, and point to the Yellow Warbler on my ears.
