Fresh Cut | Featured Work of the Day | Artist 50 of 50

Today we’re featuring Diana Horowitz’s “Tulips” (2008). Three tulips lie across a pale tabletop, their delicately curved stems and folded leaves extending through the composition. In the foreground, one flower opens into an arrangement of curling petals, while the two tulips behind it recede in softer tones of orange. Horowitz brings the viewer close to the flowers, allowing the warm blossoms to emerge against the cool gray surface, while subtle shadows give weight to their folded forms. Painted on an intimate scale, Horowitz has long favored small paintings and direct observation, through which she finds both immediacy and freedom in concentrating the visible world within a limited space.

Today is the final day to see “Fresh Cut,” closing Friday, July 24th!

Fresh Cut | Featured Work of the Day | Artist 49 of 50

Next we’re featuring Antone Könst’s “Arrangement with Cherry Blossoms” (2026). Vibrant petal-like forms, cascading blossoms, and looping stems fill the composition, while the rounded green vase rests against the rigid geometry of the checkered tabletop. The leaning forms and shifting angles create a tension of balance, giving the still life vitality and movement. At first glance the work appears to be a playful still life, but with sustained looking, faint human faces begin to emerge from the vase and surrounding foliage, blurring the boundary between botanical and human forms. Working in figurative abstraction, Könst renders flowers, faces, and natural forms through simplified geometric shapes, inviting familiar subjects to be experienced as expressive forms that carry meaning beyond their appearance.

This is the final week to see “Fresh Cut,” which closes Friday, July 24th!

Fresh Cut | Featured Work of the Day | Artist 47 of 50

Today we’re featuring Ruth Miller’s “Anemones, Gourd, Jug, Bottle.” The bouquet is framed by broad blue and ochre vessels, a bottle, a jug, and a gourd, allowing the tightly clustered anemones to emerge at the center of the painting through their vibrant color. Miller uses color to distinguish and construct each form, creating a composition held together through relationships of shape and hue. Throughout her career, Miller was deeply invested in how color could organize a composition, not simply describing objects but creating structure and defining the spaces between them.

This is the final week to see “Fresh Cut,” which closes Friday, July 24th!

Fresh Cut | Featured Work of the Day | Artist 46 of 50

Next we’re featuring Lois Dodd’s White “Amaryllis and Window” (2025). A white amaryllis extends across the composition, its long green stem cutting diagonally through the gray geometry of the windowsill. Sunlight falls in bright bands across the ledge, while the view beyond the window opens onto strips of green lawn and clipped shrubs. Painted from direct observation, Dodd returned throughout her career to the familiar places and objects around her, finding enduring subjects in the particulars of everyday life.

This is the final week to see “Fresh Cut,” which closes Friday, July 24th!

Fresh Cut | Featured Work of the Day | Artist 44 of 50

Today we’re featuring Xico Greenwald’s “Bowl of Figs” (2026). Reflections dissolve across the curved surface of the glass bowl, where densely packed figs shift between deep plum, blue, olive, and violet against an intense black background. A solitary cherry, set apart from the arrangement, echoes the saturated red of the velvety tabletop, creating a chromatic dialogue that unifies the composition. Rooted in a belief that the commonplace is rich subject matter, Greenwald’s still lifes reveal the poetry of everyday objects through attentive observation.

Fresh Cut | Featured Work of the Day | Artist 42 of 50

Next we’re featuring Hiroyuki Hamada’s Untitled Painting 048 (2021). A single white flower occupies the panel with striking deliberateness, set against an expansive, weathered ground where traces of pale blue emerge beneath layered acrylic. The broad dark brown plane below lends the composition a sense of stability, accentuating the flower’s crisp geometry. Best known for his sculpture, Hamada approaches painting with the same precision and sensitivity to form. Like much of Hamada’s work, the piece remains intentionally untitled, allowing the composition to unfold through shape, proportion, and balance.

This is the final week to see “Fresh Cut,” which closes Friday, July 24th!

Fresh Cut | Featured Work of the Day | Artist 41 of 50

Next were featuring Alix Bailey's "Tulip" from c. 2011. Painted against a background of cool blues and soft grays, a single pink bloom rises from a glass vessel in a composition that transforms an everyday still life into a tender meditation on light, color and atmosphere. Celebrated for her intimate interiors, portraits, and still lifes, Bailey's expressive brushwork and subdued palette create paintings that feel both deeply personal and quietly enduring.🌷
