The Frick Collection is your home for art from the Renaissance to the early twentieth century. Founded by Henry Clay Frick and open since 1935, the museum offers visitors intimate encounters with one of the world’s foremost collections of European fine and decorative arts. The Frick—whose renovated Fifth Avenue buildings will reopen in early 2025—features celebrated works by Rembrandt, Fragonard,

Spring into summer at the Frick 🌿🌸

This timelapse captures a bulb display in the Fifth Avenue Garden inspired by our Gainsborough exhibition (now closed) and English cottage gardens. Over the next few weeks, the floral border will change to a colorful planting celebrating the exhibition "Ruffles & Ribbons: Fashion Plates from the Time of Marie Antoinette.”

Flowering plants such as sweet peas, 'Pink Champagne' California poppies, and 'Café au Lait' dahlias will reflect the color palette of the fashion plates in the show, while foliage plants such as angel wings and Joseph’s coat will evoke the fashion accessories used at the time.

A partnership between Westmoreland and our horticulture team will also bring the gardens into the café! Keep an eye out for syrups and garnishes made from flowers and herbs grown right here at the Frick.

Cool off at the Frick with our new seasonal menu at Westmoreland🍴☀️

Highlights for this season include Spring Pea Risotto with English peas and asparagus, Poached Cod with new potatoes and ramps, and Harvest Salad with snap peas and goat yogurt. Favorites such as Chicken Milanese with lemon aioli and Avocado Toast with pistachio butter, honey, and Calabrian chili oil continue Westmoreland’s approach of refining recognizable classics through thoughtful ingredients and technique.

What's the most extravagant hairstyle you have ever worn? 🎀

Join Yifu Liu, Anne L. Poulet Curatorial Fellow, for a deep dive into the fashion of the “pouf”—the voluminous eighteenth-century hairstyle popularized by Marie Antoinette. Yifu discusses various types of poufs, as well as the measures women took to preserve them for days at a time, as illustrated in hand-colored engravings from the period.

Twenty-four of these captivating prints are on view through August 3 in the Frick’s Cabinet Gallery for the special installation “Ruffles & Ribbons: Fashion Plates from the Time of Marie Antoinette.”

This weekend is your LAST CHANCE to see what the Financial Times calls a "fabulous jewel box of a show" 👒✨

"Gainsborough: The Fashion of Portraiture" is the Frick’s first exhibition dedicated to the English artist and the first devoted to his portraiture ever held in New York. It brings together more than two dozen of Gainsborough’s greatest portraits from across North America and the United Kingdom, representing every stage of his period-defining career. You don’t want to miss it!

We are thrilled to announce a major three-year sponsorship by Louis Vuitton! ✨

Beginning this month, the House becomes a principal cultural sponsor at the Frick in 2026–28, providing vital funding for three integral areas of our mission: exhibitions, public programming, and art historical research. Happy birthday to Thomas Gainsborough, in 1727! 🎂✨

This work, on loan from the Royal Academy of Arts, is the last of his self-portraits, painted about a year before he died. Declaring his wishes for the legacy of his image, Gainsborough asserted that no posthumous "plaster cast, model, or likeness" be taken of him. However, he allowed for an engraving to be made after this portrait, which exemplifies his art in the deft, loose brushwork that became his signature.
