Student Workshop
Thursday, March 12, 4:30-6:30pm
What We Remember
Writing and video workshop around individual, family, and collective memory

Each participant is invited to bring an object from their grandparents or ancestors (or an object that reminds the participant of them) to share our stories and question together the memory that is carried in these objects and the histories we want to pass on. In addition to the object, each participant should bring their cellphone to take photos and videos, and record sounds.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Space is limited to 15 participants. Please register via link in bio.

The title of the artwork PF Flyers to Run Faster and Jump Higher by Cruz Zamarrón sounds like it has nothing to do with La Llorona and her story, but in a comedic way it does. The title refers to the sneakers La Llorona is wearing: they are meant to help her to catch the kids with ease, as the PF flyers slogan states “Run Faster, Jump Higher”. The PF Flyers, created by the tire company BF Goodrich, were a very popular shoe back in the 1960s during Cruz Zamarron’s childhood. The legend of La Llorona (The Weeping Woman) is shared throughout Latin America and Chicano culture, with the common theme of La Llorona’s being eternally cursed for drowning her own children and waiting for new children to drown near a body of water. Do you think PF Flyers would really help her?
