Anavami Center - Majio

Anavami Center - Majio ANAVAMI CENTER offers educational artistic and transformational opportunities through: Painting Circles, Workshops and Retreats.

ANAVAMI CENTER; For Mastering The Art Of Life, is a community of heart-oriented individuals dedicated to supporting the on-going experience of transcendence, illumination and ennoblement. Anavami Center is committed to creating, health and wholeness in the individual and in the community by building self-empowering skills in creativity, self-expression, visioning, communication and meaning-making

through the expressive arts, workshops, seminars, retreats, metaphor work, dream work, trance, hypnotherapy and transformational painting classes, TRANSFORMATIONAL PAINTING, is a practice but not in the sense of repeating a skill over and over like the scales on a musical instrument. It is exercise which develops alignment to principles of innate wholeness. At the center of all Traditional Japanese Cultural Arts, from martial arts to tea ceremony, is the concept of training of the mind a body to allow the freedom of spirit to come through. In this creative process we use the format of large format painting to develop muscles of connecting to inner of images by trusting, playing with materials ans turning off the critic in the initial process, which allows a strong sense of presence. "Anavami" is a Sanskrit word meaning exalted.

Our culture trains us to perceive differences as separations, but we have a choice. Would you like to move into the complementary rather than the contrary? Are you willing to push old belief systems with acrylic paint, odd marking implements, and various papers? We will utilize Leonardo da Vinci’s principles of innovation: connection, curiosity, and uncertainty to guide the painting process. Let painting conventions fall away, as reactionary habits are not the answer. We invite in a broad context to develop trust in your innovative potential.

All skill levels are welcome! Space is limited, so please register early. Bring lunch and something to drink.

Ancestors: Diptych Ancestor in Transit, 2021. Cold wax, tissue paper monoprints on canvas. 2 X 36” X 36” X 1.5”

This diptych, Ancestor in Transit, shows ancestors pausing in their journey with small traveling bundles at their feet. They are surrounded by the liminal space between worlds, evoking probable and possible realities.

Ancestors: Shield, 2019 Cold wax, oil stick, graphite, tissue paper, attached brass piece on wood panel 30” X 44” X 1” 2022

Ancestors with a brass shield on a wood panel, with oil paint and laminated cold wax layers of marked tissue paper, capture a sense of protection in the everyday world from what we are unaware of. There are the old beliefs, disassociation from feelings, and information we are not ready to understand

Cold wax, oil stick with monoprints and layers of marked tissue paper, the Ancestors Series explores through transparent overlapping images, the subtle awareness of unconscious influences that populate our psyche. These pieces simultaneously reveal how ancestors are woven throughout various aspects of life and offer a realization of the multi-layers of reality through relationships with family, mentors, and even our nemesis.

Here is the final painting from the Meeting in the Moment Workshop. As facilitators, Carolyn and I, with four participants, had the opportunity to both feel and express personal grief, and the grief of the polarities ripping our world apart.

One participant said:
"Unexpected discoveries through the creative process became a reality."

During the Meeting in the Moment Workshop, one realization that we had was how deep loss felt from the unrecognized love and vision we held for our country. Here's what one participant had to say:

"I felt that everyones’ paintings had a visceral wholeness, even as we were not focused on a finished product"

The paradoxes of grief workshop, Meeting the Moment, this last weekend, was powerful. Here is what one of the participan...

The paradoxes of grief workshop, Meeting the Moment, this last weekend, was powerful. Here is what one of the participants had to say:

"The process of deepening the layers of discovery and revelation allowed the truth in our personal creative expression to emerge."

The paradoxes of grief workshop, Meeting the Moment, this last weekend, was powerful. As facilitators, Carolyn and I, with four participants, had the opportunity to both feel and express
personal grief, and the grief of the polarities ripping our world apart. One of our realizations was the deep loss felt from the unrecognized love and vision we held for our country. Another
insight was how much grief was bypassed, targeted elsewhere, to be expressed as anger and frustration.

How can we "Meet the Moment"
in our collective crisis?

One way is to acknowledge and express our grief. Grief is a complex process that triggers old, unexpressed grief.

The paradoxes of grief:
 going backward to be able to go forward
 holding both sadness and joy
 holding on and letting go
 depth of loss is the depth of love
 feeling the pain is the cure

We will explore through large-format painting at Studio Anavami.

Calling Back the Heart: Transformational Painting Retreat

Join Majio for a Transformational Painting using large format acrylic painting. Based on a fairy tale older than Grimm's, embark on a journey guided through the ancient path of the instinctive wild woman that resides in us all. Explore the creative process to shift awareness, incite delight, and open new ways of perceiving. Three themes are explored through the somatic and intuitive use of materials: recognition, descent, and unification. Recognition allows you to own what has been given or taken away, and to explore what has been bargained or compromised without blame. Descent has you release an old identity and transform conflict into reconciliation. Unification has you sense into the changes that painting has revealed. Your last painting opens up ways in which earlier work can shape and create something new.
