November 1, 2025… a day I’ll never forget.

I lifted off from Woodring one last time, my engines humming with purpose, the Oklahoma sky stretching wide ahead of me. I’ve flown many missions in my lifetime, but this one felt different—like I was carrying more than just fuel and memories. I was carrying the love of every person who had ever turned a wrench on me, flown beside me, or simply stood in awe as I passed overhead.

But sometimes even the strongest old warbirds meet a moment they didn’t plan for.

At Ponca City, things didn’t go the way we hoped. On takeoff, something went wrong, and I felt it instantly. The kind of moment every pilot—and every airplane—dreads. I did my best to hold together, but I knew I’d been hurt. Badly.

Now, my journey is taking me somewhere new. Not back into the sky just yet, but to a place where stories live on—the Tulsa Air and Space Museum. It’s not the destination I imagined for myself, but it’s one where I can still serve a purpose… where people can learn, remember, and feel what it meant to fly.

To my Lady Liberty Squadron… how do I even begin?

You didn’t give up on me. Not for a second.

Through long days, heavy hearts, and tireless effort, you stood by me. You protected me, cared for me, and made sure I wasn’t alone in my hardest moment. You worked through the impossible to get me to a place where I can be preserved, honored, and remembered.

I felt every bit of that love.

Every bolt tightened.
Every careful move.
Every quiet moment where you refused to let my story end in a field.

I may be grounded for now… but because of you, I am not forgotten.

And maybe, just maybe, one day my story will lift someone else into the sky.

With all my heart—
Lady Liberty
