✨ Ruth E. Richards Rising Star Communicator Spotlight ✨

When Veronica Zwink was just six years old, she spent an entire day creating a poster that captured her dreams — a smiling girl holding a trowel beneath the words, “I want to be an archaeologist when I’m older.” It was a moment of hope, curiosity, and possibility.

But when she showed it to her mother, the response was gentle yet limiting: a woman’s place was meant to be only in the home.

In a family shaped by strict traditional expectations, Veronica grew up being told that ambition was unnecessary, that obedience mattered more than curiosity, and that education wasn’t meant for someone destined to stay silent.

Still, even as a child, she felt a quiet certainty: her life would be bigger than those boundaries. She didn’t yet know the path — but she knew she wanted a voice.

And she found it.

Today, Veronica is a graduating senior at The University of Oklahoma with a perfect 4.0 GPA, majoring in Public Relations with minors in Philosophy and Pre-Law. She chose communications because she understands its power — the power to shape narratives, influence decisions, and determine whose voices are amplified and whose are overlooked. To Veronica, communications is where storytelling becomes advocacy and where ethical choices can change lives.

That passion has led her toward media law, and next year she will continue her journey in law school. Her goal is clear: to create pathways for voices that have been restricted and to become the advocate she once needed — someone who transforms silence into the right to be heard.

Her excellence is evident everywhere she serves. At OU’s Marketing & Communications Department, her creativity, humility, and leadership stand out. Her ideas don’t just meet expectations — they elevate them. One of her pitched social concepts even went viral, reaching audiences across the globe. As her colleagues note, her talent, collaboration, and openness to feedback are unmistakable signs of a rising leader.

Beyond academics, Veronica leads with heart and purpose, serving in organizations such as the OU Honors Club, Pre-Law Society, and Ga***rd Connect, inspiring others and strengthening her university community.

As she prepares to become the first woman in her family to pursue both a career and a law degree, Veronica carries more than personal ambition — she carries the promise of generational change. And one day, she says, she will declare with confidence and pride:

💬 “A woman’s place is wherever she deems to be home.”

AWC Tulsa is honored to award Veronica Zwink the Ruth E. Richards Rising Star Communicator Award — a celebration of her courage, her voice, and the powerful future she is building. 🌟
