The Terrifying Tudor House is open for business! We're a little early but we're getting into the spirit of things here at Bakewell Old House Museum. We have a special trail, colouring and crafting on certain days next week as well as our usual museum exhibits open as usual. Open 11:00 until 16:00 everyday!

Something is stirring at Bakewell Old House Museum. We've been getting the skeletons out of the attic ready to completely transform the museum into the Terrifying Tudor House! Visit us between 24th October and 1st November for a few thrills, Halloween crafting and a special trail. Dressing up is encouraged!

Another round of photos - these ones have been digitised from a box of slides in our stores. There were loads of slides in that box but we're starting with these images of the School House on Church Lane which was known as The Parish Rooms when these photos were taken in the 1970s.

The Parish Rooms were hired out for events and also used by the Brownies, Girl Guides and the Church Youth Club. Let us know if you remember going there or if you recognise any of the people pictured. Bakewell of Yesteryear

Ready for Halloween? See what we've got on this month!

Fancy a spooktacular time this October half-term in Bakewell?

We’re really excited to have three Halloween themed events on this year plus the Terrifying Tudor House returns for 2026, ready for any intrepid visitors.

First up, on Wednesday 28th October we have a kid friendly (but still scary!) ghost story event. Alongside the Bakewell Youth Theatre, we’ll be telling ghost stories by candlelight to fright and delight the littler ones among us. Fancy dress is very much encouraged! Tickets are only £5 per person so get yours whilst you can.

Also on Wednesday 28th October is our annual ghost walk around Bakewell. Meeting at the National Park Centre, come on a tour of Bakewell with a couple of our very knowledgeable guides. There are lots of hauntings and happenings associated with Bakewell so you’ll be sure to have an excellent evening. There are only ten places on the walk and we expect it to sell out very quickly.

On Friday 30th October we have the adult version of our ghost stories. Set in the Tudor Hall of the museum, and lit by candlelight, you’ll be in for an atmospheric treat. The resident ghosts of the Old House have told us they’ll be sure to be there… Tickets are £8 per person so get yours soon for a spooky Friday evening.

Between Saturday 24th October and 1st November the museum will transform into the Terrifying Tudor House the spooky season. We will have pumpkin decorating and a special Halloween bingo trail ready for the kids as well. Dress up in your favourite Halloween costume and come face to face with the Old House ghosts and skeletons! All activities are included with the normal entrance fee.
