Final days…
James Lumsden
Solus bho Thuath | North Light
Closing this Saturday!

James Lumsden’s paintings explore light, colour and atmosphere through layered translucent surfaces. Built gradually through glazing, scraping and repeated reworking, each composition reveals traces of its own making — creating luminous spaces that shift between depth, movement and stillness.

Resonance (1/25), Acrylic on canvas, 90 x 75 cm.

Ceramics Showcase
6 June - 1 July 2026

Join us for the opening on Saturday 6 June from 2-4pm.

This exhibition brings together sculptural ceramic works by eleven artists. Using clay as a shared point of departure, the exhibition highlights the diversity of approaches, forms and ideas that emerge through individual practices. While united by material, the works reveal distinct sensibilities - ranging from precise and architectural to expressive and intuitive - demonstrating the breadth of contemporary ceramic practice.

Through this focused presentation, the exhibition invites viewers to consider how a single material can generate a wide spectrum of artistic responses, shaped by each artist’s process, perspective and relationship to clay.

Exhibiting artists:
A-S Rope
Dan Kelly
Derek Wilson
Frances Priest
Jane Cairns
Lorraine Robson

David Mankin dynamic and vividly coloured abstract landscape paintings draw inspiration not only from the dramatic Cornish coastline, wild moors, and expansive skies, but also from the raw physical elements of the land—rocky outcrops, beach boulders, storm debris, winding farm tracks, surging seas, and ancient fields bordered by stone hedges. He is deeply connected to the environment, relishing time spent out in the landscape and experiencing the natural and man-made forces—wind, sea, rain—that shape it. These encounters directly inform and energise his work.

2 – 30 May 2026

Exploring light, colour, depth and atmosphere, James Lumsden creates paintings through the careful accumulation of translucent layers. Glaze is built upon mark, and mark upon glaze, with each stage alternately concealing and revealing what lies beneath. Through this process of action and response, a luminous sense of space gradually emerges. Layers are dragged, scraped and manipulated using a variety of tools, repeated over time until the painting resolves itself.

2 - 30 may 2026

Primarily interested in the creation of a sense of light, colour, depth and feeling – he builds multiple thin layers of translucent colour; layer upon layer, glaze upon mark upon glaze – concealing, revealing, action, reaction, until a sense of light and depth is achieved within the process. Each layer is dragged, pulled or manipulated with various implements – the process being repeated until the painting begins to emerge.

Andrew Mackenzie’s paintings explore the space between abstraction and representation, drawing inspiration from walks through the Scottish Borders. Rivers, reservoirs, roads, tree forms, and fragments of the built environment emerge through layered marks, lines, and colour. Working intuitively with paint, watercolour and charcoal, Mackenzie creates works that reflect the interconnected relationship between landscape, structure, and time.

Barn Watercolour series, Watercolour on paper, 15 x 30 cm.
