Well it certainly has been a rollercoaster 🎢

Just two days remain to visit Local Characters at The Torrance Gallery. We’re sharing 20 highlights from the exhibition — a collection filled with exceptional paintings, warmth, humour, and character.

A heartfelt thank you to all of the wonderful artists who made this show so special, and to everyone who has visited and supported it so far. We’re delighted that many of the works have already found their forever homes… though there may still be the perfect piece waiting for yours.

There’s still time to come and see the exhibition before it closes on Saturday and we’d love to welcome you in.

POV: your dream home needs some original art.

The kind of pieces that change the atmosphere of a room, start conversations, and somehow feel like they were always meant to be there.

Art makes a house feel lived in.

Golden light, changing walls, familiar characters.

Over the past weeks, Local Characters has filled the gallery with atmosphere, colour and conversation. As we move into the final week, we’ve quietly rehung the exhibition — a few new views, a few new moments to notice.

Some works stop you instantly. Others reveal themselves slowly.

One last week to see it all together.

We’re delighted to present a collection of ceramics and decorative works by Andrew Matheson RBSA — now available to purchase from our website.

Born in Edinburgh and a graduate of Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen, Andrew has been creating handcrafted ceramics since 1981. Working from his studio in Staffordshire, he produces beautifully hand-thrown stoneware and porcelain pieces using locally sourced materials.

Reduction fired to 1280°C, each work carries rich texture, depth and distinctive glaze effects that have become hallmarks of his practice.

We have multiples available in some styles, however every piece is individually made and completely unique, with slight variations in decoration and finish that make each one special.
