We've been described as a . The Museum of Abernethy is entirely volunteer run; entry is FREE but donations are gratefully accepted! We have a range of exhibits covering different aspects of local life through the centuries, from the 3,000 year old logboat recovered in 2007 to daily life in more modern times - there's a lot to learn about the local area! We're keen to hear all your sto

ries about life in Abernethy - from going to the shops to going to the berries, we'd love to know about it! If you'd be interested in talking to us about your life in Auld Abernethy, drop us a line at [email protected] and we can arrange to come and have a chat. Enquiries about local history are also welcomed - please do bear in mind that we're all volunteers so it might take a day or two to get back to you, but we'll always reply! Keep an eye out in the new year for info on events taking place in the museum - we look forward to seeing you all when we re-open next spring.

We’re interrupting our usual meander to tell you all about our next fun event this summer! This one’s for the kiddos (although we’re all young at heart and we absolutely won’t judge if some of our less youthful followers fancy having a go 😂). Join us on Saturday 13th June from 1.30-3.30pm to have a go at creating your own historical artefact - it could be a Pictish stone, a Roman coin, or even a wee homage to our ! The event’s free and there’s no need to book - just pop in and join in the fun!

Right then, Facebook, we’re having a go at something a bit different on our socials for a wee while! We’re calling it “My Museum”, and we’re starting off with a suggestion from one of our lovely volunteers who particularly likes the TV footage on oor Big Telly. they love it because it has “the familiar faces of days gone by, 1983 the opening of the tower and 2000 opening of the museum, and all around the village”. We love it too - big thanks to Trustee Amy for digitising the old videos we had so we can play them throughout the afternoon!

What’s your favourite thing in the museum? We’re hoping to have a wee section on our website soon, but in the meantime let us know in the comments!

Had an absolute blast at the PTA fun day today! Made loads of new pals, picked up a wee fluffy cat, won some felt pens at the SWI, and got a monster mask from the Kirk (no sniggering at the back). Settling down to colour it in, cos a challenge might've been issued... 🤣

Found at the top of the tower earlier this afternoon - if anyone's lost a car key, it's at Museum HQ!

In this week’s , we’re thinking once again about tatties (and yes, Dave and Norrie, we know we’ve posted this one before, bear with us 😂). Here at Museum HQ, we’re busy planning the SPECTACULAR EVENT which will be Abernethy’s first (and quite possibly last) SPUDFEST! As part of the day, we’d love to have a wee pop up display featuring all your tattie-related memories. So if you’ve got some pics lurking in the attic, or you’d be up for coming to chat to us about your memories, let us know in the replies and we’ll be in touch! We’re also very open to being fed chips, just putting that one out there…
