Just look at who is waiting to welcome visitors back to Blists Hill this week?

George, who has been a hugely popular member of the team at the Victorian Town for about seven years, is chomping at the bit to welcome visitors once again. The 17-year-old, 18hh Shire horse cannot wait for all the attention once more, with his favourite pastime said to be ‘having a nap, with his bum in the sun, whilst people give his nose a stroke.’ 😊

Plus, we’re delighted to announce that joining George, as his brand-new companion, is the lovely Tom. Standing at 11.1hh, this seven-year-old Cob joins us from the RSPCA in Gonsal, where he has been since November. Tom is described as ‘very sweet and loves having a bath’. We look forward to getting to know him more, now he’s settling into his new surroundings.

It’s clear to see from these lovely photos, taken by Livestock Manager Nadine, that this delightful duo have already hit it off well, and we look forward to sharing more about their adventures together soon.

Don’t forget we’re opening Blists Hill tomorrow (Thursday 21 May), for pre-booked visits only at first. Plan your visit and book your trip to see George and Tom. We’re sorry that some dates are already sold-out and hope you manage to book your place soon: https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/shropshire-staffordshire/ironbridge-gorge

Final preparations have been underway in Coalbrookdale as we get ready to welcome visitors back to the Museum of Iron and Furnace Kitchen tomorrow (Wednesday 20 May).

Discover what’s on offer in the Furnace Kitchen, open seven days-a-week from 9am–5pm. To start, you’ll find a selection of hot and cold drinks, along with cakes, sandwiches and children’s lunchboxes – with more options to follow soon.

Visit Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron and uncover the story of the material that shaped the modern world. Learn how Ironbridge Gorge’s unique geology set the stage for the Industrial Revolution, and how Abraham Darby I made his groundbreaking discovery.

And it’s not long to wait until Blists Hill Victorian Town reopens on Thursday, for pre-booked visits only at first. Book your place via the website link below.

We’re delighted to be able to share, that after a huge amount of work behind the scenes, Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron and the Furnace Kitchen will be reopening on Wednesday 20 May and Blists Hill Victorian Town is opening on Thursday 21 May.

We've worked hard to get Blists Hill open in time for half-term as we know how many visitors, young and old like to visit in the holidays.

Over the coming months, we’ll be reintroducing popular activities and demonstrations, while also introducing new ones shaped by your feedback.

Initially, all visitors will need to pre-book to visit Blists Hill. Booking will be free for National Trust members and IGMT Pass/Pass Plus holders - but you do still need to book!

We are hopeful that as soon as work to upgrade the IT infrastructure is complete, this will no longer be the case, and will keep you updated on progress.

Bookings can be made via the Ironbridge Gorge website where you can find out more and plan your visit.

We know that everyone who loves Ironbridge Gorge will be happy to hear this news. Thank you for your patience while we've worked on what has been a complicated transfer - it'll be lovely to see you all again.
