Pence Gallery The Pence Gallery is a free, nonprofit art gallery, dedicated to providing exhibits by local artists.

The Pence Gallery is a cultural venue in downtown Davis that displays 12 exhibits of art in all media, by visual artists living and working in the Sacramento Valley and greater Bay Area. It's a beautiful day to visit the gallery! View exhibits in all of our gallery spaces across two floors, and also view art on display along the stairway. Our current stairway show features Garden Tour Landscapes by artists who painted onsite at the featured gardens during our Garden Tour last month.

View the completed works by artists Raquel Cox, Misuk Goltz, Barbara Smithson, Patrick Cosgrove, Marlene Lee, Leslie Allen, and Kristina Kernytska. You can also see "Native Sunflower" by Beth Savidge, which was the cover photo for the event. These works are on display through June 21, 2026.

Create beautiful blue sun prints of plants and flowers for Art in Action this Sunday! Using special blue photo paper, the sun’s rays, and some water, create amazing prints (known as cyanotypes) of leaves, flower petals, and more. Transform these prints into one-of-a-kind collages through cutting, layering, and adding natural materials and other found objects.

Art in Action: Creative Sun Print Collages
Sunday, June 7, 1-3 PM
$5 Members, $10 Non-Members (per person, all materials included)

How it works:
Art in Action engages kids in art projects that are fun, creative, and collaborative with their family members. This is a drop-in program for ages 5-12. No registration in advance is required, but space and supplies are limited to the first 25 participants and are available on a first come, first served basis.

When you arrive, pay with cash or card at the front desk. A parent or adult caregiver is required to stay, but only has to pay for the project for themselves if they are also doing art. Stay as long or as short as you like over the two hour period.

Become a Member starting at $70/year and save! If you join the Pence Gallery when you attend this workshop, you can enjoy Member pricing for Art in Action, plus receive a $5 gift certificate to our gift shop as a thank you. Membership supports art for all ages and makes creative moments like this possible—jump in and be part of it.

This unique monthly program is generously sponsored and made possible by Mary Stephens DeWall and Les DeWall.

This Saturday, bring the kids and learn about the ancient Japanese practice of seed bombs! Using air-dry clay and native wildflower seeds, make seed bombs that you can later plant outdoors or in a garden. Decorate your seed bombs with dried petals and stamps, and design and illustrate a plant care card to help you take care of the wildflowers you plant.

Art in Action: Spectacular Seed Bombs

As an essential part of our Garden Tour event on May 3rd, seven artists created distinct views of the selected gardens in Davis. Artists Raquel Cox, Misuk Goltz, Barbara Smithson, Patrick Cosgrove, Marlene Lee, Leslie Allen, and Kristina Kernytska painted outdoors in different media, from oil and acrylic paint to watercolors.

Visitors could see the artists as they developed their work onsite, as each artist chose a favorite area of their particular garden. From close-up views of a few plants to paintings that captured a wider panorama, each artist created a unique vision of the homeowner’s garden. We are grateful to the artists who dedicated their time to paint during the Garden Tour, and for the ability to display their completed paintings. We’d also like to thank Beth Savidge for the use of her photograph Native Sunflower as our cover image for the Garden Tour event, which we are including for visitors to enjoy in person.

If you are interested in purchasing any of these works of art, please see our staff. Pence Members also receive 10% off of work in this exhibit.
