Entering a cave with an open flame was once a critical underground safety technique rather than a symbolic ritual. Historically, miners relied on candles and oil lamps as early warning systems to identify unstable air conditions before advanced monitoring equipment existed. While modern gas detectors are now the standard, the underlying principle remains unchanged: even a simple flame can reveal environmental dangers hidden beneath the surface.
