Sage Art Center Home of Studio Arts at the University of Rochester

The Studio Arts Program of the Department of Art and Art History focuses on the production aspects of visual studies. Sage Art Center is a place where art is produced, analyzed and exhibited; it provides access to all the materials, supportive resources, faculty and staff necessary for a rich studio experience. Our program is focused on contemporary approaches to art production; it strives to produce technically adept students with an understanding of art’s place in culture.

Last week one of our seniors, Ellie Hayward, opened her thesis show in Sage’s ASIS gallery. Ellie’s thesis is entitled Pause, Breathe. It is an interactive installation for which she is using commas to talk about the necessity of taking time to pause, reflect, introspect, and think about the relatedness and relationship between supposedly separate concepts/ideas/structures. Stop by anytime before May 1st to embody the essence of a comma! Come sit, meditate, crawl in, lay down. Pause, Breathe is an invitation to connect with your self, your environment, and those in your community, so use the space as it feels right!

1 DAY UNTIL SAGEFEST! 👩‍🔬🎭

Notice anything different about Sage….? 👀 Just in case you forgot, Sagefest is tomorrow!

Join us at Sage Art Center at the University of Rochester for our annual festival of creative shenanigans! This year we are highlighting connections between Art and STEM.

At the entrance to Sage, explore the studio art senior thesis exhibitions, “Pause and Breath” by Ellie Hayward (ellie), and “Alphabet Bakery” by Genselle Gonzalez (Genselle). Next, stop in our sculpture space to see the Art of Science exhibition featuring past winners of the university’s Art of Science Competition.

And the fun doesn’t stop there! Come enjoy screen printing t-shirts or totes ($3 cash or bring your own shirt/tote... we will use white ink), an art sale, audio design and performance, weaving on a loom, workshops in cyanotypes and eco printing (printing with plants), activities with zines, rubbings, paper art, virtual reality, and MORE!
