Built on Water is a contemporary art exhibition presenting past, present, and future visions of the Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach, featuring Los Angeles-based artists Flora Kao, Kaya & Blank, Jennifer Gunlock, Hilary Norcliffe, and Katie E. Stubblefield. Built on Water is curated by AGCC’s Director of Exhibitions, Cecelia Caro.

Meet Phoebe Khang, AGCC's new Arts Education intern! Read on for an intro, and enjoy a behind-the-scenes throwback to Phoebe's concept sketch for the second large-scale work by Teen Mural Club 🎨🐈

"Hi I’m Phoebe! I’ve been a part of the Angels Gate Cultural Center community for a little while now, since I was a member of the Teen Mural Club in high school. I was looking for work over the summer and this internship stood out to me because it gave me an opportunity to give back to my community after it gave me so much with Teen Mural Club and Family Art Workshops. Right now, I’m home here in San Pedro, but come August I’ll be back at Cal State Long Beach studying microbiology. I’m excited to learn how nonprofits and art education works behind the scenes, and I’m looking forward to teaching people how art and science compliment each other. I’m also happy to be helping out around here, it means so much to me to keep this place a safe and creative space for everyone!"

AGCC Studio Artist Melodie Reay is teaching a Hand-building & Surface Design class this summer — open to all levels, from total beginners to seasoned makers. Over 5 Thursday evening sessions, she'll teach hand-building with templates & molds and surface decoration techniques with texture and color.
