TUESDAY
A FUN AND TRUE FACT: I was originally going to call this month SCARY SCARECROWS SCARE ME and screen four films about evil scarecrows. At this point, in 2026, we've already had months dedicated to ghosts, monsters, haunted houses, witches, darkness, skeletons, cannibals, non-goblins, Halloween parties, mummies, Dracula, non-Dracula vampires, curses and hexes, plus multiple months showcasing Frankenstein and killer apes - I figured scarecrows were the new hotness. Then I realized the following: A) half of the scarecrow movies didn't actually involve Halloween, B) three out of the four movies were essentially the exact same story about a scarecrow or scarecrows coming to life and murdering hapless townsfolk, and C) I was not wicked enough to subject human beings to the 1995 Steve Latshaw/Fred Olen Ray pain parade known as Jack-O. At least, not yet, anyway. Give me time.
So! Go for broke! I picked the most unusual, most Halloween-focused scarecrow movie out of the bunch. It's an ambitious tale about denim jackets, slicked back hair, and escaping the awful garbage town you grew up in.
Week 3 of SCARE-TOBER commences! Bring your machete! 7:30pm at the Main Street Museum! Over Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/6513230906!
