The Design Museum Brussels, established after the acquisition of a private collection by the Atomium, is a place dedicated to design and its history. Since 2015, the museum's collection, The Plastic Design Collection, circumscribes the landscape of plastics in design from the 1950s to the present day. Alongside this collection, in September 2020 the museum opened Belgisch Design Belge, a new perma

nent exhibition space dedicated to Belgian design and its history. Enriched by a programme of temporary exhibitions, the Design Museum Brussels also explores other fields of design creation and its impact on society and our daily lives. Through exhibitions, guided tours, workshops, conferences and events, the museum aims to ensure that design is intelligible to one and all.

Take a look behind the scenes of Baguette Studio during the Design Brunch on Sunday June 7 💡

Baguette Studio invites you to discover their manufacturing process and unveils, for the very first time, their new portable rotomolding machine. The design duo is concerned with environmental issues and the limitations of our industrial production systems. And the studio is behind LE LABO 1.0, a series of circular lamps made from natural waxes and electronic components compatible with OS_Studio’s OpenStructures grid.

Baguette Studio vous invite dans les coulisses de leur processus de fabrication et dévoile, pour la toute première fois, leur nouvelle machine de rotomoulage portable. Le duo de designers est concerné par les enjeux environnementaux et les limites de nos systèmes de production industriels. Le studio est à l’origine de LE LABO 1.0, une série de lampes circulaires conçues à partir de cires naturelles et de composants électroniques compatibles avec la grille OpenStructures d’OS_Studio.

Neem een kijkje achter de schermen bij Baguette Studio tijdens de Design Brunch op zondag 7 juni 💡

Baguette Studio nodigt je uit om hun productieproces te ontdekken en onthult voor het eerst hun nieuwe draagbare rotatiegietmachine. Het ontwerpersduo houdt zich bezig met milieukwesties en de beperkingen van onze industriële productiesystemen. De studio staat aan de basis van LE LABO 1.0, een reeks cirkelvormige lampen gemaakt van natuurlijke wassoorten en elektronische componenten die compatibel zijn met het OpenStructures-raster van OS_Studio.

Enjoy a delicious sweet and savoury buffet while exploring the museum, its collections, and current exhibitions. Throughout the morning, there will be guided tours, behind-the-scenes discoveries, and creative workshops for young and old alike.

On this important day, we would like to shine a spotlight on our publication Q***r Graphics

This book was published to accompany the exhibition ‘Brussels Q***r Graphics’, which ran from 17 May to 5 November 2023 at the Design Museum Brussels. Through a wide variety of objects and documents, Q***r Graphics delves into the visual and cultural history of everyday life, driven by the activism of individuals, communities, associations and groups. It offers a fresh perspective on the history of LGBTQI+ communities

Opening next week on 24 April

In 2026, Val Saint-Lambert celebrates its 200th anniversary. To mark this milestone, Design Museum Brussels and the Musée du Verre de Charleroi present Val Saint-Lambert & Design. The exhibition is dedicated to the creative output of Val Saint-Lambert from the 1958 World’s Fair to the early 2000s, a period that witnessed an unprecedented creative renewal.

En 2026, Val Saint-Lambert célèbre son bicentenaire. Pour marquer cet anniversaire, le Design Museum Brussels et le Musée du Verre de Charleroi présentent Val Saint-Lambert & Design. L'exposition se consacre à la création du Val Saint-Lambert, allant de l’Exposition universelle de 1958 au début des années 2000, une période qui témoigne d’un renouvellement créatif sans précédent.

The Design Museum Brussels has teamed BNA-BBOT (Bruxelles Nous Appartient – Brussel Behoort Ons Toe) to launch a podcast series dedicated to the figures and voices that have shaped Belgian design.

The first episode is dedicated to Marie Wabbes. In an interview with design historian Katarina Serulus, the designer looks back on her career and her work in illustration and design. Marie Wabbes, who was already featured in the exhibition Untold Stories – Women Designers in Belgium 1880–1980, is also present in Designing Childhood. A History of Design for Children.

Last week we celebrated the opening of ‘Designing Childhood. A History of Design for Children’ 👶

Co-organised with the Centre Pompidou, the exhibition highlights children’s furniture. As a source for innovation and experimentation, it reflects the social, cultural, economic, technological and educational transformations of its time. The exhibition also reveals the dialogue between Belgian and international designs, as well as the changing place of children in society.

La semaine dernière, nous avons célébré l'ouverture de « Designing Childhood. Une histoire du design pour enfant » 👶

L’exposition, coorganisée avec le Centre Pompidou, met en lumière le mobilier pour enfants. Véritable terrain d’innovation et d’expérimentation, il est le reflet des transformations sociales, culturelles, économique, technologiques et pédagogique de son époque. L’exposition révèle également le dialogue entre créations belges et internationales, ainsi que l’évolution de la place de l’enfant dans la société

De tentoonstelling die georganiseerd is in samenwerking met het Centre Pompidou, belicht kindermeubilair. Als een waar terrein van innovatie en experiment weerspiegelt het de sociale, culturele, economische, technologische en pedagogische veranderingen van zijn tijd. De tentoonstelling toont ook de dialoog tussen Belgische en internationale creaties, evenals de evolutie van de plaats van het kind in de samenleving.
