Petrykivka Painting Workshop at HMS Unicorn 🇺🇦

Join us at HMS Unicorn for a creative workshop connected to the exhibition What We Carry.

This workshop is dedicated to Petrykivka painting - a beautiful traditional Ukrainian decorative art recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage.

Petrykivka painting is known for its bright colours, flowers, berries, leaves, and birds. Traditionally, it has been used to decorate homes, everyday objects, and special cultural items in Ukraine.

At the workshop, participants will learn about this unique tradition and create their own Petrykivka-inspired painting to take home.

No experience is needed. All materials will be provided.

Spaces are limited to 10 participants. Suitable for ages 12+.

📅 Saturday, 6 June, 12 pm
📍 HMS Unicorn, South Victoria Dock Street, Dundee

We hope you are tuning in regularly to keep up with our 'Meet The Crew' series.

Today we would like you to meet the Ship's Surgeon who had to perform some pretty gruesome tasks with no anaesthetic available.

We all love a good nautical quote here at HMS Unicorn....
so you can imagine how excited we were to find out we actually have our very own.

A little piece of Unicorn history, and one we think still rings true today.

Safe to say, we'll be adding this one to our favourites.

⚓️ Discovery & Dialogue: Join us for the visit to the «What We Carry» Exhibition

We are delighted to invite our local community and friends across Scotland to a special group visit to the What We Carryexhibition at the HMS Unicorn, Dundee.

This moving exhibition is the result of a creative partnership between the historic HMS Unicorn and members of the Ukrainians Together community. It explores the deeply personal stories of those displaced by conflict, told through the objects they brought with them to Scotland—each a small piece of home, memory, and hope.

📍 When & Where

Dates: Thursday 28th & Friday 29th May
Time: 12:00 PM
Location: HMS Unicorn, South Victoria Dock Road, Dundee, DD1 3BP.
📋 What to Expect:

The Exhibition: Explore personal stories housed within the ship’s own historic chests and suitcases.
The story behind: A chance to meet project curators to listen to the work on transforming their experience in storytelling.
Shared Reflection: An opportunity for a discussion chat about the themes of heritage, identity, and displacement.

Why join us? A wooden ship is a vessel of journeys and shared destinies. There is no better place to reflect on the things we "carry" than on the decks of a ship that has stood the test of time. We invite you to step on board, step back in time, and step into the stories of our new neighbours.
