Just Food: The ends and the means 🌽🌽

Join us at Heeley City Farm for an afternoon on collective action towards just food systems, labour and land work.

We are living through the most unstable threat to food security seen in recent generations. With food, fuel and fertiliser shortages set to bite in the coming months as a consequence of war, climate crisis and large scale industrial farming; the issue of sustainable and equitable access to food is more urgent than ever.

This event brings together speakers developing imaginative and critical interventions to our current food system including Leslie Barson of Granville Community Kitchen, Claire Ratinon from Solidarity Across Land Trades (SALT), and Emiliano Mellino, investigative journalist at The Bureau of Investigative Journalism.

Together, we will plot how capitalist forms of extraction, exploitation and exhaustion of both land and workers are challenged and overcome. The discussion will be facilitated by artist Rehana Zaman.

“I was conscious of the ease with which renderings of the landscape can so easily become bucolic or romanticised – the trope of the simple rural ways of living that obscures the continual displacement and expropriation of land in the interests of capital.”

‘Field Work’ – Rehana Zaman interviewed by Adam Benmakhlouf
