The Science Museum mourns the loss of Inger Rice, one of the Science Museum of Virginia’s most dedicated and generous supporters. Inger’s extraordinary philanthropy and steadfast commitment to the Science Museum helped shape our institution in lasting and meaningful ways, including our very own Inger Rice Learning Center. Her partnership, vision and belief in the importance of science education will continue to inspire future generations through the many lives she touched and the legacy she leaves behind.

To celebrate we're talking about field trips with local teachers and students!

In fiscal year 2026, more than 82,000 guests joined the Science Museum on group visits. Of those, over 11,000 were from schools that asked for assistance to make the visit possible.

An estimated 89,000 under resourced students live within an hour of the Science Museum, underscoring a need that surpasses current capacity. We’ve set a goal to raise enough funds to offer free field trips to all under-resourced schools within a one-hour radius of the Science Museum.
