Congratulations to Dr William Kwok on receiving the Daily Point of Light Award from Points of Light – honouring individuals who drive meaningful change through service and civic engagement.

A Hong Kong-born, New York-based educator, Dr Kwok has spent decades blending martial arts, movement, breath, and contemplative practice into transformative learning experiences that build resilience and deepen human connection.

When the COVID-19 pandemic left many in his New York neighbourhood – particularly Asian-American women – feeling unsafe, Dr Kwok responded by launching free online safety workshops through his organisation, the Martial Arts Education Society. As the world reopened, the workshops continued in person, covering practical safety skills alongside topics such as bias, stereotypes, and community connection.

To date, Dr Kwok has hosted over 30 workshops serving between 60 to 120 participants each – reaching seniors, immigrants, and other vulnerable residents. Inspired by former US President George H.W. Bush, the Daily Point of Light Award has recognised over 8,000 such individuals whose quiet but powerful acts of service create lasting change.

Warmest congratulations, Dr Kwok – a well-deserved honour.
