Studio update here 😄. I was determined to post weekly this year, but time is whizzing by at a ridiculous rate!
I'm preparing for an exhibition at which begins on June 13th; finishing off paintings so they are dry in time (even when it's warm, oil paint can take aweek or two to dry).
I'll send full details about the exhibition in the next few days. 🥰

What do you think of my latest painting of Sennen beach?

I''ve been working on this painting over the last few weeks - I work on about 4 at a time & this is the one that's closest to being finished/may be finished...just need to sit with it a while longer to be sure.

When I talk to my art class students about inspiration & subject matter it helps me to get clearer about my own. I have come to realise that colour, light and the beautiful 'jigsaw'-like slotting together of rocks and water hold the top 3 spots in my list.....have done so for quite a few years now....and this ticks all the boxes!!

My last few paintings are a little softer in colour than usual as I get to grips with doing all but the final day or so on a painting with chalk paint instead of oil paint. I'm trying to reduce the amount of white spirit fumes in my studio...but am finding that althoigh I love the chalk paints, the colour palette is very different from the one I'm used to & I still need the oil paints for the final pops of colour & finer details.

And by the way, if you fancy having a go at painting, or want to re-invigorate an already existing painting practice, do get in touch. I still have a few spaces available on my studio classes, & love doing 1-to-1 and holiday group painting days too.

With a maximum of just 7 people per group, everyone gets plenty of guidance and space to grow at their own pace.

People often ask me how long it takes to create one of my paintings. Because I use mostly oil paints, & work quite large, each painting can take as long as 4 or 5 months from start to finish (usually only working on them once a week, with several on the go at any one time)

For a bit of light relief - while i'm waiting for paint to dry, or wanting to be creative out of the studio, on a smaller scale - I get out my oil pastels. I'm currently using a make called which are very much cheaper than the professional ones i used to use, but still lovely quality.

These 3 are my most recent drawings, inspired by the gorgeous view I get of the sea when I sit at the top of the cliffs at Carn les Boel. It's the closest bit of coast to me, and on a sunny day I don't think there's a place on earth more beautiful!

These 3 drawings are 11inch square & available for sale at £140 each direct from me. If you are in Cornwall & fancy an outing, i have quite a lot more currently for sale at Coast Colour Canvas Gallery until Friday. The drawings at the gallery are £165 mounted & wrapped.
